Santa Teresa Foothills Neighborhood Association
URGENT CALL TO ACTION:
RADICAL LAND USE PROPOSAL PROPOSED FOR APPROVAL BY SAN JOSE CITY COUNCIL ON AUGUST 18TH
On Tuesday, August 18th, the San Jose City Council will be asked to move forward with a proposed change in zoning that will forever alter single-family neighborhoods. If approved, up to 10 residential units could be built on a typical 6,000 square ft parcel. No parking would be required, and 3-story structures would be allowed on ANY residential lot in San Jose. This will affect every neighborhood in the city. Further, this development would be ”by right,” meaning that it would be approved without any input from neighbors or the community. The resulting increases in traffic, utility usage, demands on police and fire services, and loss of trees in neighborhoods would be significant.
The Board of Directors of the Santa Teresa Foothills Neighborhood Association has voted unanimously to oppose this measure. While we support efforts to increase housing in the City’s Urban Villages and in the Downtown along major rail lines, this “one-size-fits-all” approach would radically change every neighborhood citywide. The City prides itself on providing a choice in residential settings, from single-family neighborhoods to high-rises in the Downtown. However, this proposal tells residents in single-family neighborhoods that their choice was wrong and that the City has a better plan. We disagree.
THE CITY COUNCIL NEEDS TO HEAR FROM YOU IN THE NEXT FEW DAYS!
